The Common Chair is a project that combines research into the lives of early Canadian settlers with a solution to the problem of waste material created in wood-related industries.

Based on a chair model that came to Ontario with the first settlers, The Common Chair is made of scrap Canadian hardwoods gathered from Toronto area studios and manufacturers. The Common Chair re-purposes wood that would have otherwise been burned or sent to a landfill. Our project preserves the energy invested in the raw material and maximizes its fullest potential.

All of the chairs are made by hand and assembled at random so that each chair is unique. The Common Chair is finished using a water based, zero VOC finish.
